Blessings and sacramentals

Blessings, holy water, sacred objects, and other sacramentals dispose people to receive grace and sanctify ordinary circumstances. They differ from the seven sacraments and do not work as magic. Their value is connected to the Church’s prayer and a faithful response. Popular devotions should harmonize with the liturgy and avoid superstition or the claim that a particular object guarantees an outcome.
