Forgiveness in the profession of faith

The Creed professes forgiveness because Christ entrusts a ministry of reconciliation to the Church. Baptism brings a first sacramental forgiveness, and the sacrament of penance serves the continuing conversion of the baptized. Forgiveness is a gift of mercy that calls for repentance, repair where possible, and renewed charity. It is not permission to ignore harm or evade responsibility.
