Library introduction · Catechism 963–975

Mary in the life of the Church

Mary is honored as a member and model of the Church whose whole vocation points to Christ. Her motherhood, discipleship, and assumption are understood through the grace of her Son. Catholic devotion distinguishes veneration from the worship owed to God alone. A sound Marian practice deepens attention to the Gospel, participation in the liturgy, and love for neighbors.
