God's name and truthful reverence

Reverence for God’s name calls for truthful, faithful speech about sacred things. Prayer, promises, oaths, and public religious language should not use God to excuse manipulation or wrongdoing. The commandment concerns more than avoiding a set of words. Invoking divine authority carries responsibility to speak honestly and avoid exploiting another person’s trust.
