The commandments and love

The Ten Commandments are read within God’s covenant and Christ’s commands to love God and neighbor. They name serious responsibilities while protecting goods such as worship, life, family, truth, and community. Their division and numbering can differ among Christian traditions even when the biblical material is shared. The commandments should be studied as a coherent moral vision, not detached prohibitions.
