Reading Scripture as a Catholic

Catholic reading attends to a biblical author’s words, literary form, historical setting, and place in the whole of Scripture. The literal sense is foundational; spiritual readings must remain connected to what the text actually says. Scripture is read within the Church’s living faith, with Christ at its center. Poetry, parable, historical narrative, and prophecy need different interpretive attention.
