Passion, death and redemption

Christ’s passion and death are understood through his free, loving obedience to the Father and solidarity with sinners. The cross is not a justification for violence or a reason to blame Jewish people collectively for Jesus’ death. It exposes sin and reveals divine mercy. Christian teaching holds the cross together with resurrection, sacramental life, and the call to self-giving love.

How does Christ’s self-giving differ from glorifying suffering itself?
