The Eucharist and the Mass
The Eucharist joins thanksgiving, sacrifice, Christ’s real presence, and sacramental communion. At Mass the Church participates in the one sacrifice of Christ; she does not repeat his crucifixion. Catholics confess that the bread and wine become his Body and Blood while their sensible appearances remain. Preparation for communion includes faith, reconciliation where needed, and charity toward others.

Liturgy and the work of the Trinity
Liturgy is the Church’s participation in Christ’s saving work through the Holy Spirit, directed to the Father. It is more than a community performance or a collection of religious symbols. The paschal mystery is celebrated through signs, words, and actions in the worshiping body. This Trinitarian pattern connects private prayer with the Church’s common worship.

Participating in Mass
Prepare for Mass by reading the Scriptures, arriving with attention, and joining the assembly’s listening, responses, silence, and prayer. Understand the connection between the liturgy of the word and the Eucharist. Reception of communion has specific conditions; visitors and those not receiving can still attend and pray. Local assistance is valuable when you are learning a rite or returning after time away.
