Illness, bereavement and pastoral care
Illness and bereavement call for patient companionship, practical help, and respect for each person’s grief. Christian hope does not require denying sorrow. Sacramental care, prayer, appropriate treatment, and support for caregivers can work together. Avoid promising a cure, attributing every tragedy to a hidden fault, or imposing a timetable for recovery. A community’s care should continue beyond the first crisis.
