Schools of spirituality

Select a passage to highlight, add a note, or link it to a learning path.

Catholic spiritual traditions offer different ways of living the Gospel: Benedictine stability and prayer, Franciscan poverty and fraternity, Dominican study and preaching, Carmelite contemplation, and Ignatian discernment are examples. These emphases overlap and do not divide Christians into rival spiritual ranks. A sustainable practice should deepen charity and fit a person’s actual duties and circumstances.
