Human dignity and moral vocation

Select a passage to highlight, add a note, or link it to a learning path.

Moral responsibility rests on a dignity received from God. People are never merely means to another person’s pleasure, profit, convenience, or ideology. Christ reveals both the seriousness of human freedom and the vocation to communion. This dignity belongs equally to people who cannot advocate for themselves, who disagree with us, or whose lives seem unproductive.
