Failures, abuse, accountability and reform
Honest Catholic history includes abuse, coercion, discrimination, cover-ups, and failures of leadership. Faithfulness does not require hiding evidence or treating victims as threats to an institution. Accountability, protection of vulnerable people, lawful reporting, and reform belong to the Church’s responsibility. Historical context can explain circumstances but must not become an excuse for denying harm or evading truth.
