The Council of Chalcedon
The fourth ecumenical council, which issued the Chalcedonian Definition on the two natures of Christ and 30 (in this edition's numbering) disciplinary canons, including the contested Canon 28 on the honors of the see of Constantinople — rejected by Rome at the time, a genuine point of East-West friction, not a later dispute. Its christological definition was rejected by the Oriental Orthodox churches (the Non-Chalcedonian/Miaphysite communions), a schism that persists today; treat its reception as contested, not universal, from the outset.
