Church Father · c. AD 296–373
Athanasius of Alexandria
Bishop of Alexandria, present at Nicaea (325) as a deacon and the Nicene party's leading later defender; exiled from his see five times during the Arian controversy. On the Incarnation is an early work (likely pre-episcopate) and should not be read as his final or most developed Trinitarian statement — his anti-Arian polemical works from later in his career engage the controversy far more directly.
